Our current issue features a story by Gabrielle Menezes. Without spoiling it for you, I’ll just say that Mali plays a role in the story and is very much a character. I thought it might be fun to listen to some music from Mali, to help you hear and visualize a place that remains unknown for many of us.
You may already know of Ali Farka Touré and Habib Koité, both featured in the first video. The second video is Boubacar Traoré who’s work helped me get through many long hours of thesis writing in grad school and inspired the film, Je chanteria pour toi.
